Nowhere Next to Nothing
Winnipeg is my mom's hometown.
I still have lots of family there and have spent more time in Winnipeg than the average American...well...maybe even the average Canadian too. Winnipeg is a major Canadian city with a small town feel.
There is a lot to poke fun at Winnipeg about...flat, middle of nowhere, snow for almost half the year...but there is a lot to love about it too. I'm not just saying this because my family comes from there. It's pretty in its own prairie-like-way, summers at the lake are priceless, people who live through deadly winter climates like that are way nicer and way more aware of their neighbors and community. Neil Young and Michael J. Fox come from Winnipeg. Winnie the Pooh was named after Winnipeg.
My cousin Kevin wrote these lyrics about his hometown, his childhood friend wrote the music and a 15 year old girl named Darrelyne Bickel is the singer. Yes, I said 15 years old. She's from The Pas; a city in Northern Manitoba where polar bears are known to still roam. Yes, I said polar bears.
Just a fun, upbeat song with very accurate lyrics sung by a young woman with a beautiful voice. Congrats Kevin!
